Modified PAT Tester For Medical Testing

ASNZS3551 pat testers

As we have already stated through out this course, the testers we have mentioned are not solely designed as medical testers for medical testing, rather they have been modified for medical testing.

Medical testers can be extremely expensive as stand alone pieces of kit so Metrotest created a solution and thought why couldn’t your standard portable appliance tester perform these tests? Hence Metrotest has several testers that we have work with the manufacturers to create a tester that can test medical equipment in accordance to Appendix B.

We created custom shortcodes with the correct values and parameters for testing medical equipment that you have seen in the demonstrations.

As you will know not all PAT testers are created equal and some cannot be modified to perform these tests. We recommend that you give us a call before you decide on what you would like to use for medical testing. We also advise this because other companies don’t have the experience or knowledge when it comes to the AS/NZS 3551 and may also incorrectly state that a tester can perform medical testing when it really can’t.

A few things you should note though when looking at PAT tester to use for medical testing are:

Can you create custom test codes or shortcodes with your PAT?

Can custom test codes allow you to use different values for doing medical testing that meet the requirements of Appendix B?

How easy will it be for the tester to be modified for testing medical equipment (just because it can, doesn’t mean it should).

Can I get my PAT easily calibrated for testing medical equipment?

Will I get support from the supplier you bought it from and is this support local?

These are some of a few considerations you should think about before purchasing a PAT or medical tester for that matter. If you think about these things you are more likely to save yourself a lot of time and money in the long run.
