Frequency of Testing

Tagging for newly introduced equipment in New Zealand is done as per normal in-service testing and inspection see Table 4: AS/NZS 3760 for time periods.

For the Standard AS/NZS 3551 refer to Section 10 ‘An organisation shall establish the test intervals’ and ‘A formal review should occur at least every three years.’

For AS/NZS 3760

Records are not required to be kept (unless third-party) but we strongly advise this and with downloadable PATs there is no reason not to keep them as it is also extremely simple to record results electronically.

For AS/NZS 3551

Records are to be kept for a minimum of 7 years.

Lastly, it should be noted that many pieces of medical equipment are hired out, making them fall under hire equipment. Because of this, they should be tested every three months. Unlike the hire requirements for the AS/NZS 3760 where testing is required every 3 months, equipment hired under the AS/NZS 3551, has no definite retest date. A new hirer/customer/client hires equipment it should be retested before being reallocated to a new client.
