Touch Leakage Test AS/NZS 3551

NOTE: According to AS/NZS3551 B10.1 This test is only required for Class I Appliances.

This is a measure of the current flow that would flow through the person if they made contact with exposed metal parts of the machine.

0.1mA is the limit for this test

Note the appliance frame is to be isolated from earth.
Appliance turned on for test.
Take a representative sample of exposed metal.

NOTE: If the equipment is set up as a system and is connected via a common supply cord, then this shall be tested as a single item of medical equipment

Touch Leakage Test With Neutral Open Then With Earth Open AS/NZS 3551

This test is similar to a touch leakage test, but instead of using a wander lead attached to exposed metal parts, it is attached to the parts that are normally attached to the patient.
All the same, parts that are attached to the patient can be grouped together or tested individually.

Applied Part Normal Condition Neutral Open Earth Open
Type B 0.10mA 0.50mA 0.50mA
Type BF 0.10mA 0.50mA 0.50mA
Type CF 0.01mA 0.05mA 0.50mA

This is to simulate what would happen if the Neutral or Earth was to become accidentally open-circuited. This is a measure of the current flow that would flow through the person if they made contact with exposed metal parts of the machine.

0.5mA is the limit for this test

Note: the appliance frame is to be isolated from earth.

Note: at the end of the electrical testing be sure to switch the appliance off.
