Leakage Test
NOTE the 500-volt insulation test covered in this training in many instances, depending on the individual appliance under test and competency levels of the person undertaking the testing, could be unreliable.
For this reason a LEAKAGE TEST of equipment at supply voltage is preferable. SET THE EQUIPMENT TO MAX LOAD IF NOT POSSIBLE TO GO THROUGH MULTIPLE SETTINGS.

NOTE: If the equipment is set up as a system and is connected via a common supply cord, then this shall be tested as a single item of medical equipment.

For Class II Appliances ENSURE Wander Lead is attached to the appliance under test before operating.
BUT ENSURE IT IS NOT ATTACHED TO A ROTATING PART.
NOTE: Every tester is different therefore users need to be aware of the warning systems/features that their particular tester uses. For example the MetroIPAT may not automatically do this test – you have to press the green ‘START’ button to proceed which is a designed safety feature to protect the user.
The operator of the METROiPAT has the ability to turn all ‘warnings’ on or off under ‘Configuration of Tester’ from the ‘Home’ screen of the tester.
- Please note if the tester is set to ‘Perform auto-tests automatically’ equipment being tested will be powered up automatically (GO) once the Visual Test or previous test
has been completed. - For safety, it is essential to treat equipment as though it may go at any time.
- Keep body parts away from hazardous areas that could cause injury or death
- For safety purposes, users should be aware of switch position (on/off) and if necessary, switches should be off until test is initiated. Switches on the equipment being tested still need to be in the on position when test is running/carried out.
For equipment to pass this test the reading displayed must be:
AS/NZS 3760
| Class I | 5mA |
AS/NZS 3551
| Class I | 5mA |
Leakage Test With The Neutral Open AS/NZS3551
This is to simulate what would happen if the Neutral was to become accidentally open-circuited.

10mA is the limit for this test
| Class 1 Neutral Open | 10mA |
NOTE: the appliance frame is to be isolated from earth
