500 Volt Insulation Test

A 500 volt Insulation test is very important to perform, especially if the item being tested relies on its casing as its primary source of protection for the user, which is the case for class II equipment. Please have a read through the procedure below when performing a 500-volt Insulation test.

a) Ensure equipment is still plugged in and make sure the ‘on/off’ switch is in the ON position
b) Attach the wander lead to a metal part of the appliance- this should always be done but often it is forgotten.
c) Follow the on-screen instructions on the Metrel AlphaPAT or MetroiPAT until the test is completed
d) At the end of the test ensure the appliance is turned off.

When testing insulation on a class II appliance, ATTACH the wanderlead to a exposed metal part of the appliance.

NOTE: The MetroIPAT will always do a 250/500 Volt Insulation Test first if both a leakage and a 500 Volt Insulation Test are selected.

For the equipment to pass this test the reading displayed must be 10 Megohm or greater.
