Bronze Test & Tag Online Training Course – Perfect for Health and Safety Managers
Whether you are just starting out in test and tag, or you are a health and safety or HR representative wanting to understand what testing and tagging actually involves, knowing where to begin with training can feel like a big unknown. For those not wanting to commit to anything yet, the good news is, there is a free place to start.
The Bronze course is the first of three levels needed to gain competency under the AS/NZS 3760:2022 standard, and best of all, it costs nothing to enrol. It covers the fundamentals — an introduction to the standard itself, appliance classes, what a PAT tester actually is, keeping yourself and others safe while testing, and record keeping requirements including how to avoid fraudulent testing procedures. If you have never tested and tagged before, this is exactly where you need to begin.
For health and safety or HR representatives who aren’t personally doing the testing but need to understand what competency looks like, what the standard requires, and whether your team is doing it right — the Bronze course gives you that grounding without any prior electrical knowledge needed. Understanding what you are supposed to be overseeing makes a big difference when it comes to audits and workplace safety obligations.
Not sure if online training is the right fit compared to in-person? The Bronze course being free is a great way to get a feel for the online learning format before committing to anything further. Complete it at your own pace and see if it suits the way you learn.
Once you have completed Bronze, the next step up is the Silver course, which builds on that foundation with electrical theory, visual inspection, earth continuity and earthbond testing, and an introduction to more advanced testing procedures. It’s where the real hands-on knowledge starts to come together.
From Silver, the Gold course takes things further again — covering advanced testing procedures, insulation and leakage testing, management of failed appliances, and a one-on-one assessment with a Metrotest trainer over Zoom. Gold is the level that gets you to full competency and earns you a full colour photo ID card upon completion.
